Hey! Welcome to another Dan's ToyBox action figure review. Today's focus is on one of my long-time favorite characters: Scott Summers, A.K.A. Cyclops. Leader of the X-Men, first student at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and all-around cool character. This figure is based on his classic blue and gold X-Factor costume and is part of the Nemesis Build-A-Figure wave.
Cyclops, real name Scott Summers, is a founding member of the X-Men and one of Marvel’s most iconic mutants. Gifted with the ability to project powerful optic blasts from his eyes, Cyclops must wear ruby quartz lenses to contain and control the energy. As the longtime field leader of the X-Men, Scott is known for his tactical brilliance, disciplined demeanor, and unwavering commitment to Charles Xavier’s dream of peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants. Over the years, Cyclops has evolved from a rule-following student to a hardened leader, sometimes walking the line between hero and revolutionary. His romantic relationship with Jean Grey and sibling bond with Alex Summers (Havok) are cornerstones of his character arc.

Accessories: 7/10
This figure comes with a total of five accessories, enhancing its versatility:
Two swappable head sculpts: one with a neutral expression and another depicting Cyclops mid-optic blast, capturing his powers in action.
Two pairs of interchangeable hands: fists and open hands, allowing for dynamic posing and display options.
An optic blast effect piece: designed to attach to the visor, simulating Cyclops' signature energy beam. The beam and blast effect can separate from one another to increase play and posing options. Take note that the end of the beam is notched, to accommodate the blast piece. The only thing I really don't like is the fact that the underside of the beam has a texture to it. I wish they'd flip the mold so that the texturing is on top and easier to see, especially for photographing.
Additionally, the figure includes the right arm and hose component for the Nemesis Build-A-Figure, encouraging collectors to complete the entire wave.
Appearance: 9/10
Cyclops is presented in his classic blue and gold X-Factor costume, faithfully replicating his look from the comics. The figure utilizes the Vulcan body mold, known for its balanced proportions and enhanced articulation. The paint application is clean and vibrant, with sharp lines. Unfortunately, the yellow paint at the shoulders could use an additional layer or two as it is very transparent and the blue plastic beneath does show through. The head sculpts are well-detailed, capturing Scott Summers' determined demeanor. The optic blast accessory adds a dynamic visual element, making the figure stand out on display.
Articulation: 8/10
Built on the Vulcan body mold, Cyclops boasts a wide range of articulation points:
Ball-jointed head allows for side to side and decent up/down range. Tilting is non-existent due to the size of the ball.
Butterfly shoulders: enable forward and backward arm movement. Full 360-degree shoulder rotation, and T-posing work as normal.
Bicep cut for swivel. Double-jointed elbows and knees: facilitate dynamic action poses.
Ab crunch and waist swivel: provide flexibility in torso movement. Can bend backward and forward fairly well. Waist swivel looks terrible though, due to the design. Please, Hasbro, start putting ball joints in at the waists of your Legends figures.
Hips allow for almost 90-degree front kick and acceptable splits. Still not as deep as other figures in this line and other properties though.
Thigh cuts, boot cuts, and ankle rockers: ensure stable stances and varied leg positioning.
This articulation setup allows for recreating iconic poses and action sequences from the comics.
Affordability: 8/10
The figure is priced at $27.99 and is available at BigBadToyStore. Given the inclusion of multiple accessories and a Build-A-Figure component, it offers good value for collectors. Availability may vary, but it can be found at various retailers.
Overall, the Hasbro Marvel Legends: Nemesis Wave: Cyclops (Blue/Gold) X-Factor Action Figure is a well-crafted representation of the character, combining classic aesthetics with modern articulation and accessories. It's a valuable addition for both dedicated X-Men fans and general collectors. I've always said that sometimes simple is more effective and this simple, classic design rates a solid:
8 out of 10 ToyBoxes
This Cyclops will look excellent in any X-Men or Cyclops centric display. Now, the only thing Hasbro MUST put out is an updated version of the classic costume, featured in the Toys R Us Exclusive Cyclops/Dark Phoenix Two-Pack. I have the Diamond Select but really want to see a new Legends version. Fingers crossed that we may see it in a future X-Men '97 wave!!! Thank you for checking out our latest review and until next time... GEEK OUT!!!
